Sri Lanka unveils NEDP 2026–2030 aiming for US$ 36 billion export target

Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror) -The National Export Development Plan (NEDP) 2026–2030, launched in Colombo yesterday (16), sets a target of achieving US$ 36 billion in export earnings by 2030 while positioning Sri Lanka as a competitive, logistics- and knowledge-based export hub serving regional and global markets.

The plan was officially unveiled as a key component of the country’s long-term economic strategy. It aims to strengthen the export sector and drive sustained export-led growth over the next five years.

The initiative has been developed by the Export Development Board under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, in line with the government’s 2025 Budget proposals.

Officials said the plan was formulated through extensive consultations with government institutions, private sector stakeholders, and international development partners, with technical assistance provided under the Asian Development Bank’s Policy-Based Loan programme.

The strategy identifies six horizontal focus areas and eight priority export sectors to enhance diversification and global competitiveness.

Authorities said the NEDP is expected to improve production standards, expand market access, and support long-term economic stability, strengthening Sri Lanka’s position in regional and global trade.

The launch event was attended by senior government officials, ministers, Central Bank representatives, exporters, and development partners.
