Sri Lanka temporarily halts sending workers to Israel

Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lankan government has temporarily suspended sending workers to Israel due to the current security situation in the region, following an announcement by Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA).

According to PIBA, Israel’s international airports are currently not operating at full capacity due to the escalating situation between Israel and Iran. As a result, all employment deployments from Sri Lanka to Israel have been put on hold.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism stated that this suspension affects both newly selected job seekers as well as those who had returned to Sri Lanka expecting to re-enter Israel for work.

In line with Section 39 (1)(b) of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Act No. 21 of 1985, the SLBFE will not carry out new registrations for employment in Israel until further notice.

Authorities assured that employment deployments will resume once clearance is received from PIBA regarding the situation.
