Shammi invites ’biggest cricketing legend’ to take over national team

Colombo, Nov 23 (Daily Mirror) - As Sri Lanka’s cricket administration looks to address the failings of the national team at the Cricket World Cup, SLC President Shammi Silva on Wednesday said he was inviting a prominent former national player to take over the coaching role.

“Some former legends could be involved in moving forward. I am inviting the country’s biggest cricketing legend to come to Sri Lanka and take over the national team, and we will even pay what the coach of the Indian team gets,” Silva said, stopping short of naming the individuals he was referring to.

Silva said several decisions will be taken on how to proceed with the team, in the wake of Sri Lanka’s ninth place finish at the World Cup.

“We will take some big decisions over the next three or four days,” Silva added.
