Seven long-distance trains on upcountry line cancelled

Seven long-distance train services on the Upcountry Line have been cancelled tomorrow (21) following the derailment of the Kandy–Colombo Fort intercity express train near Ihala Kotte Railway Station this evening.

According to railway officials, heavy rainfall in the area and difficulties in accessing the derailed section have hampered recovery operations, and clearing the line is expected to take time.

As a result, three trains departing from Colombo Fort to Badulla, Kandy, and Matale, and four trains operating from Kandy, Matale, Badulla, and Beliatta towards Colombo have been cancelled until further notice.

Cancelled Services:

05.50 a.m. – Colombo Fort to Badulla

07.00 a.m. – Colombo Fort to Kandy (Intercity Express)

10.35 a.m. – Colombo Fort to Matale

04.50 a.m. – Matale to Colombo Fort

05.00 a.m. – Kandy to Beliatta

06.15 a.m. – Kandy to Colombo Fort

08.30 a.m. – Badulla to Colombo Fort

Meanwhile, the train scheduled to depart Colombo Fort at 8.30 a.m. to Badulla and the train departing Badulla at 9.45 a.m. will both commence their journeys from Kandy Railway Station at their scheduled times.
