Colombo, Nov. 11 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lankan leaders have expressed condolences following a blast near New Delhi’s iconic Red Fort on Sunday, which killed nine people and is being investigated as a terror attack.
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said Sri Lanka stands in solidarity with the people of India.
“Saddened by news of the explosion in Delhi this evening. Sri Lanka stands in solidarity with the people of India. Our thoughts are with all those affected,” he tweeted on Monday.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa called for unity against terrorism.
“Shocked to hear about the terror attack in New Delhi. All should unite to eradicate the scourge of terrorism. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who were impacted by this dastardly attack,” he wrote on social media.
The blast occurred hours after Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana Police teams recovered thousands of kilos of suspected explosives along with a cache of arms and ammunition from two houses in Faridabad.
Indian authorities have linked the explosion to the “white collar” terror module recently dismantled by the police teams. The car involved in the blast belonged to a doctor from south Kashmir’s Pulwama, who was reportedly part of the module.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities probe the full extent of the terror network behind the attack.
