Colombo, April 24 (Daily Mirror) - The Sagarika Express train operating from Beliatta to Maradana in Colombo has derailed between the North Kalutara and Wadduwa railway stations this morning, the Railways Department said.
They said the incident has resulted in both railway tracks at the location being completely blocked, causing major disruptions along the coastal railway line.
According to authorities, train services from Colombo Maradana are currently limited to Wadduwa. Meanwhile, trains originating from Beliatta, Matara and Galle are being operated only up to South Kalutara.
Officials further said that the derailment has caused extensive damage to the railway track infrastructure. Restoration work is expected to take a considerable amount of time before normal train operations can resume along the affected section.
Passengers are advised to seek alternative transport arrangements and stay updated through official railway announcements.
