Colombo, Feb. 2 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has successfully conducted an awareness programme for police officers in the Anuradhapura District focusing on the Anti-Human Trafficking Act, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Act and related investigative procedures.
The programme was held at the Anuradhapura District Secretariat Auditorium with the objective of strengthening law enforcement capacity to combat human trafficking and foreign employment-related fraud.
With a growing number of Sri Lankans seeking employment overseas, authorities have noted an increase in incidents where job seekers fall victim to human trafficking networks and fraudulent schemes, particularly through social media and other online platforms.
Officials said the programme was aimed at preventing such exploitation by equipping police officers with a clear understanding of the legal provisions available to take action against fraudsters and traffickers. By educating police officers, who serve as the primary point of contact for the public at the local level, the Bureau expects to improve the quality and effectiveness of services provided to affected communities.
The awareness initiative is being conducted island-wide by the Legal Division of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment in collaboration with its Anti-Human Trafficking Unit. The Anuradhapura session marked the first such programme conducted this year, with further programmes planned in other districts.
