SL to get US support to import quality drugs: NMRA Chairman

Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) Prof.S.D. Jayaratne yesterday said that Sri Lanka would take advice from the United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the importation and regulation of medicines in the future.

He made this comment during a training programme that was conducted by the FDA at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute yesterday. About fifty officers and pharmacists of the NMRA participated in the programme.

“The institution has promised to provide the necessary knowledge for that.” The Chairman said.

The chairman expressed confidence that pharmacists will use this knowledge to reduce the production of inferior drugs in the future.

Chief Executive Officer of the NMRA Dr. Vijith Gunasekara, Dr. Sarah McMullen - Country Director for the FDA India Office, Dr. Phuc Nguyen, International Relations Specialist and Dr. Sudheendra Kulkarni, Senior Technical Advisor - USFDA India Office attended the programme.

NMRA Chairman does not have to worry. We have a great Minister who can purchase medicines from black-listed companies for very high commissions. The Minister is also planning to reduce the population of this over-populated country.

Where do you have the money to pay for those drugs advised by USA? If you are internationally declared bankrupt and a beggar, declare yourself that and behave in that way.

There is no need for any training or foreign trips.Everything available on the web and it is only the commitment to learn relearn and put them to action.No need to say we will get advice from FDA as it is already in place and implied,Only integrity and sincerity of purpose required.
