Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) Prof.S.D. Jayaratne yesterday said that Sri Lanka would take advice from the United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the importation and regulation of medicines in the future.
He made this comment during a training programme that was conducted by the FDA at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute yesterday. About fifty officers and pharmacists of the NMRA participated in the programme.
“The institution has promised to provide the necessary knowledge for that.” The Chairman said.
The chairman expressed confidence that pharmacists will use this knowledge to reduce the production of inferior drugs in the future.
Chief Executive Officer of the NMRA Dr. Vijith Gunasekara, Dr. Sarah McMullen - Country Director for the FDA India Office, Dr. Phuc Nguyen, International Relations Specialist and Dr. Sudheendra Kulkarni, Senior Technical Advisor - USFDA India Office attended the programme.
