SL rupee hits Rs. 300 against US Dollar at Standard Chartered Bank

The Sri Lankan rupee touched a record low of Rs. 300 against the US Dollar today at the licensed Commercial Bank, Standard Chartered.

Also, the exchange rates of several other licensed Commercial Banks reported Rs. 299 and Rs. 295 against the US Dollar today.

However, according to the Central bank of Sri Lanka, the selling rate is at 294.99 while buying rate is at 284.82.

At this rate, its better to scrap the smaller denominations such as 50/= Rupee note and below, because to even buy a cup of tea, one has to pay 100/=. LKR is becoming like the Japanese Yen in the 1980's.
