SJB in trouble with allies, seniors as Premadasa shuns reconciliation with Prez

Colombo, Dec.15 (Daily Mirror) - The minority allies of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) - Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) - remain disappointed after its leader Sajith Premadasa said in Parliament that he would not patch up with President Ranil Wickremesinghe in view of future elections, an informed source said.

These two allies backed by some SJB MPs have tried hard to form an alliance between the SJB and the United National Party (UNP) led by the President to face the elections pending next year. An informed source familiar with the process told Daily Mirror yesterday that these parties and some SJB seniors believe in the need for such unity to contest the elections as a formidable force against the JVP-led National Peoples’ Power (NPP) and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

However, Mr. Premadasa’s open remarks against it resulted in their attempt a futile exercise.

The mainstream political forces have begun to evolve strategies in view of the presidential election scheduled for next year. A group of SJB seniors and the party’s minority allies prefer the President to ditch the SLPP and form an alliance with them.

According to the Constitution, the election has to be conducted before October, next year. Mr. Premadasa has already expressed interest in contesting the election. NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake is another prospective candidate expected to be in the fray.

Predicable scenarios 1)/Ranil goes with SLPP and the SLPP will be happy to back Ranil because it is only way for them to survive 2)>Sajith goes with all minorities and yet he will not win because of wide support for NPP 3)/NPP cannot win alone without the support of some other minorities . No one will have an overall majority So Sajith must know that well. He cannot be too greedy And he can not go alone

Citizens democratically elected 145 pohottuwa parliamentarians, 82 of them ended up breaking away and voting for Dallas. leaving 63 who may have voted for RW. But RW got 134. So clearly a large potion of SJB has voted for RW to be president. Sajith should lie low and compete for presidency only in 2035 by which time Namal and Anura will also be front runners if they remain in opposition till 2035. Opposition is the place where you build your popularity whilst govt is where you loose it.

How can one come up with the crazy idea of an alliance between the SJB and Ranil!!!??? You don't enter into an alliance with the man you are fighting against politically, who will be rejected by the majority of the people and will experience a disastrous defeat!!!Premadasa can only think about participating in the government in the future if he enters into a coalition with the JVP and Anura Kumara! But even then, winning the election and forming a government with a majority is not certain! The decisive factor will be who will be the new strong president from this coalition, whom the people trust and who will consistently implement the drastic changes in politics!!! Neither AKD nor Premadasa are the right people for this!!! My recommendation, which has been expressed several times, is Sarath Fonseka! He has demonstrated leadership and the corresponding required skills in an outstanding manner in the military, and he will also demonstrate them as president!!!

It will be politically suiciding for Sajith to reconcile with Ranil. Ranil's only option will be SLPP (pohottuwa) and will surely lose in the election. In the current conditions, Sajith can become the main competitor for NPP. Even if it would be difficult for Sajith to win, he can establish a strong base as opposition leader. If he joins Ranil, his vote base will largely drop and he will lose his position too while Ranil will anyway lose as people are fed up of him. If he's smart enough, Ranil may not stand in presidential election...

It will be good to have a three way election. Ranil, Sajith and AKD. If no one wins 50%, there will be a second round, potentially between Sajith and AKD. That will be a good exercise in democracy. I have never been a supporter of JVP. But this time, I think they deserve a chance. The mainstream parties are full of crooks. It does not matter which party it is. SL desperately needs a major change. Otherwise, the country has no future. My only fear is that the people of SL are not intelligent enough to throw out both mainstream parties.

@Volker Metzger, I repeatedly commented on very doubtful character of SF as a cultured civil politician with empathy towards society, my story is, the time he first appointed as a MP he was managed to occupy a banglow ,opposite Kobbekaduwa agrarian office, Colombo 7, we quite a number of teachers, who were used to park our vehicles along that isolated broad road for long time before his arrival but soon after he occupied the place has ordered his security personnel ,not allow to park EITHER side of road along his wall,putting us in great difficulty to find parking in that area of Colombo 7, closer to working place ,as a civilian, who is expecting love of people of his country, he necessary not be that thick headed. though he expecting high post in civil society,his care to sharing is like that,I feel he is power hungry and unusually thick headed man and not fit for such a high post

@ Jamis; Main streams have been the UNP and Rajapakshas' led parties. Only significant ones left have been the JVP and the NPP. One party helps the poor by distributing medical equipment, computer laboratories, busses and restored the power supply of Mihintale while the other got a mount of files and say SL to be made a developed country by exporting graphene. So, there are two aspects to choose as admirable by considering the practicality.
