SJB in trouble with allies, seniors as Premadasa shuns reconciliation with Prez

Colombo, Dec.15 (Daily Mirror) - The minority allies of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) - Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) - remain disappointed after its leader Sajith Premadasa said in Parliament that he would not patch up with President Ranil Wickremesinghe in view of future elections, an informed source said.

These two allies backed by some SJB MPs have tried hard to form an alliance between the SJB and the United National Party (UNP) led by the President to face the elections pending next year. An informed source familiar with the process told Daily Mirror yesterday that these parties and some SJB seniors believe in the need for such unity to contest the elections as a formidable force against the JVP-led National Peoples’ Power (NPP) and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

However, Mr. Premadasa’s open remarks against it resulted in their attempt a futile exercise.

The mainstream political forces have begun to evolve strategies in view of the presidential election scheduled for next year. A group of SJB seniors and the party’s minority allies prefer the President to ditch the SLPP and form an alliance with them.

According to the Constitution, the election has to be conducted before October, next year. Mr. Premadasa has already expressed interest in contesting the election. NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake is another prospective candidate expected to be in the fray.

Predicable scenarios 1)/Ranil goes with SLPP and the SLPP will be happy to back Ranil because it is only way for them to survive 2)>Sajith goes with all minorities and yet he will not win because of wide support for NPP 3)/NPP cannot win alone without the support of some other minorities . No one will have an overall majority So Sajith must know that well. He cannot be too greedy And he can not go alone

Lather, rinse, repeat. Over and over again. And yet our people wait for a miracle to happen

Sri Wickrema Friday, 15 December 2023 04:54 AM

If SJB wants to patch up with RW it is better to dissolve SJB. And make way to win NPP.

    Dee Friday, 15 December 2023 10:21 AM

And what next? Have our heads propped on a fence post!

    Ara Friday, 15 December 2023 05:15 AM

No need to reconcile with this regard, if anyone want to join RW go ahead, sajith should go alone even if he doesn't win, chase this retard forever, daily mirror doing its best to rescue their puppet

    Ara Friday, 15 December 2023 05:17 AM

The main candidates will be arjuna ranatunga, who will be supported by the JVP and sajith premadasa

Down Under Friday, 15 December 2023 05:27 AM

Wise decision Sajith. Who wants to join a dead horse. You would have lost more seats for sure. UNP and Ranil is hated by all Sri Lankans today for taxing the poor and hard working people whilst turning a blind eye to corruption.

    Man Friday, 15 December 2023 11:52 AM

Yes of course. This is another typical that sort of article which is without the names of alleged persons.

Ana Liz Friday, 15 December 2023 05:43 AM

Citizens democratically elected 145 pohottuwa parliamentarians, 82 of them ended up breaking away and voting for Dallas. leaving 63 who may have voted for RW. But RW got 134. So clearly a large potion of SJB has voted for RW to be president. Sajith should lie low and compete for presidency only in 2035 by which time Namal and Anura will also be front runners if they remain in opposition till 2035. Opposition is the place where you build your popularity whilst govt is where you loose it.

    Onlooker Friday, 15 December 2023 06:15 AM

Sajith is right here as it needs a break from the past of Ranil

    dana Friday, 15 December 2023 06:26 AM

RW never allowed SP to rise in UNP like he has been doing for Ruwan W, he tried his best to be there and come to the leadership, when it failed only he set up SJB

    Ram Friday, 15 December 2023 06:28 AM

    If the SLMC

Hon Sajith also a SWOLEN HEADED person. Soon he will realise.

Suren Sarathkumara Friday, 15 December 2023 08:19 AM

This reminds me of the news that claimed JVP has internal dissenters. It's a shame how news papers are executing political agenda.

    Yosuf Friday, 15 December 2023 08:22 AM

Minority parties are aiming for parliamentary posts if they (SJB) win election. All are opportunists. Sajith refuses to join because Ranil will insist on conditions. Must appreciate Sajith for his stand .

    Jude Friday, 15 December 2023 08:25 AM

Don't worry all these parties SLPP SLFP SJB will be reduced to rubble and UNP already reduced to one.

Namal will be the elected president within ten years, because people never learn. Look at the Philippines.

Whatever coalition is formed, AKD is the next President.

Hyenas scavenging for power. I hope our people learn to vote with concern for the nation than for personal gain like in the past.

No one should get close to president.

Bring Rajapakse family back everything should be finished

    Gona Friday, 15 December 2023 10:35 AM

Sajith is a damn brute. But the process is so complex that we have have to accept bitter things in order to get rid of Rajapakshahoru and CBSL robber. Better an alliance between SJB and NPP. NPP has evolved as a formidable force. Do not try to deny it.

    das Friday, 15 December 2023 10:49 AM

These untrustworthy double-crossing racist minority parties should be told to go to the devil. Reconcilliation would mean bringing back the losing streak the UNP was on. Besides, it would also mean reconcilliation with MR and Co as well. Better to lose than be with that gang again.

    das Friday, 15 December 2023 10:56 AM

These minorities always end up betraying whatever coalition they join, always jumping ship to join the government. Better to dump them. Opportunists!

Liberal One Friday, 15 December 2023 11:06 AM

No one will get past 50% and JVP and SJB will start killing each other pushing the country into complete chaos. Indian military will move in, in the name of humanitarian crisis and Ranil will be re-instated for a "transitional period".

    Bandu Friday, 15 December 2023 12:06 PM

SLMC and TPA are opportunists waiting for only their leaders to get into parliament by joining a party that can get seats. Their real contribution to a major party only marginal.

Karalasingam Sivalingam Friday, 15 December 2023 12:13 PM

Discarded parties can only offer old wine in new bottles, let's a new party, emerge with new economic, social, racial outlook, which people are eagerly awaiting for. Seventy-five years of corrupt, cheaters, murderers and swindlers, no more to be elected.

    Abd Friday, 15 December 2023 12:43 PM

UNP as well as SLPP no worth parties with zero base, but public who watched උස නම් මුරකරු,මිටි නම් නම්කරු video, understand what the real character in side of SP, but videos, which I watched recently, SP quite eloquently and wittingly speaking in parliament but certainly come to administration ,he has see the possibility to join hand with NPP but it’s doubtful from NPP side

Volker Metzger Friday, 15 December 2023 12:50 PM

How can one come up with the crazy idea of an alliance between the SJB and Ranil!!!??? You don't enter into an alliance with the man you are fighting against politically, who will be rejected by the majority of the people and will experience a disastrous defeat!!!Premadasa can only think about participating in the government in the future if he enters into a coalition with the JVP and Anura Kumara! But even then, winning the election and forming a government with a majority is not certain! The decisive factor will be who will be the new strong president from this coalition, whom the people trust and who will consistently implement the drastic changes in politics!!! Neither AKD nor Premadasa are the right people for this!!! My recommendation, which has been expressed several times, is Sarath Fonseka! He has demonstrated leadership and the corresponding required skills in an outstanding manner in the military, and he will also demonstrate them as president!!!

    Quolp Friday, 15 December 2023 01:00 PM

Ranil will no longer prevail, no American command will help Ranil, but the General Public will take the lead to elect a President. Dead Party UNP can not be RESURRECTED.

    Frank Friday, 15 December 2023 02:12 PM

It will be politically suiciding for Sajith to reconcile with Ranil. Ranil's only option will be SLPP (pohottuwa) and will surely lose in the election. In the current conditions, Sajith can become the main competitor for NPP. Even if it would be difficult for Sajith to win, he can establish a strong base as opposition leader. If he joins Ranil, his vote base will largely drop and he will lose his position too while Ranil will anyway lose as people are fed up of him. If he's smart enough, Ranil may not stand in presidential election...

    Mayu Friday, 15 December 2023 02:26 PM

All politicians who will form alliances with or support Ranil and the Pohottuwa will be permanently rejected in coming elections. So if Sajith wishes to continue as a future political leader, he should go alone patiently with people's wishes

NV Jen Friday, 15 December 2023 03:24 PM

Ranil never wanted to give Sajith the leadership while at UNP. Worse, Ranil worked covertly against Sajith for him to lose against Gota in 2019. Ranil's wheeler dealer actions and his reluctance to punish the corrupt is a huge setback for him in any future elections despite restoring normalcy from Gota

    Wiraj Friday, 15 December 2023 03:30 PM

Deceiving head lines! Why SJB is in trouble? Ranil is the guardian angel (devil) of the corrupt and murderous Rajapakse clan since Yahapalanaya times. So it's the unholy Ranil- Rajapakse alliance that is in trouble.

    Jamis Friday, 15 December 2023 06:11 PM

It will be good to have a three way election. Ranil, Sajith and AKD. If no one wins 50%, there will be a second round, potentially between Sajith and AKD. That will be a good exercise in democracy. I have never been a supporter of JVP. But this time, I think they deserve a chance. The mainstream parties are full of crooks. It does not matter which party it is. SL desperately needs a major change. Otherwise, the country has no future. My only fear is that the people of SL are not intelligent enough to throw out both mainstream parties.

    Mohan Friday, 15 December 2023 06:59 PM

There is no one popular party in the current situation. But, people should not expect any of the current political leader would solve the economic issues. Everyone should think of ways to improve their personal economic situation by producing something extra.

@Volker Metzger, I repeatedly commented on very doubtful character of SF as a cultured civil politician with empathy towards society, my story is, the time he first appointed as a MP he was managed to occupy a banglow ,opposite Kobbekaduwa agrarian office, Colombo 7, we quite a number of teachers, who were used to park our vehicles along that isolated broad road for long time before his arrival but soon after he occupied the place has ordered his security personnel ,not allow to park EITHER side of road along his wall, putting us in great difficulty to find parking in that area of Colombo 7, closer to working place ,as a civilian, who is expecting love of people of his country, he necessary not be that thick headed. though he expecting high post in civil society, his care to sharing is like that,I feel he is power hungry and unusually thick headed man and not fit for such a high post

    Man Saturday, 16 December 2023 06:30 AM

@ Jamis; Main streams have been the UNP and Rajapakshas' led parties. Only significant ones left have been the JVP and the NPP. One party helps the poor by distributing medical equipment, computer laboratories, busses and restored the power supply of Mihintale while the other got a mount of files and say SL to be made a developed country by exporting graphene. So, there are two aspects to choose as admirable by considering the practicality.

    Mandoza Saturday, 16 December 2023 04:37 PM

@Man, It seems you missed the video mentioned by Abd, find it and watch it and find yourself, how deceitful is real SP ,from current character of SP who is counting votes
