Rs. 1bn approved to upgrade school hostels

Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror) - The government has approved Rs. 1,008 million to repair and improve 126 school hostels across the country between 2026 and 2028, the Prime Minister's Media Division said.

They said the decision was taken after authorities found that 126 school hostels were in poor condition because they had not been properly maintained. This has affected both the education and daily living of students staying in the hostels.

The project will improve basic facilities and provide students with a safer and better place to live and study.

The proposal was submitted by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya in her role as Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, and was approved by the Cabinet.
