Now I wonder as per our laws the householder who assaulted the thief with the fatal blow will be arrested.

    Dee Sunday, 11 February 2024 02:14 PM

Yes . As per law in any country- yes. Worse- in some ‘developed’ countries where most of us dream to jump , if the robber enters the house from the roof and falls in and gets injured (without even the house owner touching ) - house owner gets arrested!

Either Him or the Robber - Self Defence Sunday, 11 February 2024 04:07 PM

He was defending himself. It’s either him or the robbers getting killed as he was woken up.

Drug addict Sunday, 11 February 2024 04:34 PM

Please The lawyers collective come and fight on behalf of the dead man. Ai aiyo the fellow is helpless. The inmate has violated the human right of the ROBBER of entering into some other person’s property. Robber means robber and they are not supposed to enter through normal entrance.

    Spartacus Sunday, 11 February 2024 04:52 PM

This happened inside the premises, therefore it can be deemed self defence because these robbers are also deadly drug addicts.

Tissa Fernando Monday, 12 February 2024 02:10 AM

It depends on the lawyers to make a case of self defence, if robbers have better lawyers they will make the case favorable to the robber. In Sri Lanka when an accident happens on the road , local village heros come and attack the drivers as well as injured passengers and burn the vehicle too.

Sumo de Silva Monday, 12 February 2024 10:01 AM

Spartacus must know this guy who died. Must be a friend of his otherwise he would not know he is a dangerous drug addict.

    VJ Sunday, 11 February 2024 02:40 PM

I don’t believe these burglars operate unarmed. If anyone encounters an intruder in the house, how would one react? A lot depends on who acts first. In this case the resident acted swiftly and a burglar is down. Good it ended this way. Soon we will be living like the whites in South Africa, behind high compound walls, electric fence and ferocious dogs in addition to guns.

Sumo de Silva Monday, 12 February 2024 10:07 AM

We do that already. If you live here wqjhich I doubt very much, you would too. No electric fences though. Way too expensive to use electricity as a deterrent.

    Chryshan Sunday, 11 February 2024 02:53 PM

He should be set free since he has to safeguard his loved ones and valuables. Best lessons for all robers

    Anthony Sunday, 11 February 2024 02:54 PM

I was about to say the same thing as Prince.

    LK Sunday, 11 February 2024 03:06 PM

Now Prince speaks about protecting a thief. Yet, we should not kill, and yet, think of three robbers to the house of a resident in the mid-night. Who asked them to enter this house? did the owner of this house ask them to come? All these robbers intend to steal and rob the house even to harm residents. What the owner did was in self-defense. It may have gone wrong. But he or she has the right to self-defend. Mr Prince. What would you have done if someone broke into your house with knives to rob? will you surrender to them to steal all

    Jayantha Sunday, 11 February 2024 05:37 PM

Weldone.should be donw same for any robber who tries to breakin. Law should protect the attacker as it is his house and it is not intensional.

navratne willamune Sunday, 11 February 2024 06:04 PM

    instant justice

    Gt Sunday, 11 February 2024 06:34 PM

Hope he wasn't trying to steal to feed his family, people are desperate these days

How If home owner killed Sunday, 11 February 2024 08:22 PM

The home owner has family to feed. If robber had killed him, you will defend the home owner I guess.

    Ram Sunday, 11 February 2024 08:44 PM

Why can't I act in defence of me my family

If you have limbs work hard Sunday, 11 February 2024 09:52 PM

Now, don't try to justify the action of the thief saying that the government is at fault.

Brighter Economy, Less Crime Monday, 12 February 2024 04:38 AM

Government has some part too. If economy was brighter, these robberies will drastically drop. Due to corruption

    Mandayan Monday, 12 February 2024 03:10 AM

This is the hottest debate in the UK and the government refuses to make a law that killing for self-defense in the own house is allowed as someone can be kidnapped, brought home, and killed and then claimed as self-defense. Because it is a grey area, the Police should investigate and establish that there was a genuine danger to life. Perhaps the two who fled may set light, on why they came in.

Sumo de Silva Monday, 12 February 2024 10:04 AM

Yes they came to have picnic in that house.

Severe Punishments Must Be Imposed Monday, 12 February 2024 04:42 AM

Government has some part too. If economy was brighter, these robberies will drastically drop. Due to corruption

Ashad Dole Monday, 12 February 2024 05:37 AM

This is a very interesting case and an eye opener for all house owners, fathers who live peacefully in their homes with their family etc etc What is our LAW on something like this happening to anyone ? Is there a LAW for "SELF DEFENSE" ? As far as I would understand, anyone in CRIMINAL TRESPASS would have his / her civic rights forfeited once he she crosses the RED LINE. Everyone should follow this case and see what the final judgement would be. Burglars would think twice before they enter a house to rob the residents.

    Gabriella Monday, 12 February 2024 07:20 AM

When someone enters a home illegally, the home owner must use proportionate force to defend himself/herself. This would be the legal opinion of all liberal civil libertarians. If someone wishes to wait until the home invader communicates their intention of raping or killing their family that is their prerogative. For the rational person the only thought should be, “better him dead than me being sorry.”

Sumo de Silva Monday, 12 February 2024 10:03 AM

Hmm what a rational thought. Are you from planet stupid or what?

    Perera Monday, 12 February 2024 10:10 AM

Could you define proportionate with an example please. We here are too stupid to work that out ourselves.

    Gona Monday, 12 February 2024 09:27 AM

Hey, Mahindaya and Ranila have robbed the whole country. Why people don't take self defense action?

    xaber Monday, 12 February 2024 10:18 AM

My own house was robbed an year ago and when I woke up, the thief ran away. Police was useless as they just asked me to install CCTV so I had to install CCTV and security system immediately to protect my property. Having experienced that trauma once, I can solemnly say that I wouldn't hesitate to assault anyone breaking into my property in future.
