Colombo, Nov. 14 (Daily Mirror) - Rasika Peiris, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, has assumed duties as the new Commissioner General of Elections this morning.
The Election Commission said that his appointment follows the retirement of Saman Sri Ratnayake, who concluded his public service on 13 November 2025 after reaching the mandatory retirement age of sixty.
Ratnayake had served as Commissioner General of Elections since 16 October 2019, marking the end of a long and distinguished public service career.
Rasika Peiris is one of the most senior officers in the Election Commission, with 27 years of continuous service.
He joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service on 2 March 1998, and later entered the Department of Elections as an Assistant Election Commissioner on 15 September 1998. Over nearly three decades, he has held key positions including Assistant Election Commissioner, Deputy Election Commissioner, and Additional Election Commissioner.
