Colombo, Nov. 25 (Daily Mirror) - While stressing the need to promote English education in the country, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said today that former President Ranasinghe Premadasa mastered his English language proficiency through self education by spending more time in the Parliament library.

He told Parliament that one must have the ability to master their English language proficiency by spending more time in the library even if they do not have enough educational qualifications.

"One best example is former President Ranasinghe Premadasa. He mastered his English language proficiency through self education obtained by spending more time in the Parliament library. He was able to address the UN General Assembly and faced interviews in the English language," he said.

Premadasa said one must not humiliate others for being unable to use a language proficiently, but it is important to question what had led to the situation.

Also he manged 67,652 during 87/90 period. His personal score was around 55,000 - 60,000. Clever, isn't he!

No point in talking about RP or JR or CBK Mr Premadasa. You are not able to win the heart of young voters due to poor speeches made by you and work done by you in past. For example take that housing projects. The project is a good one but you named the schemes in a funny way. Sada Loka Pujitha etc.. So take a step back and allow a leader who can speak and win the hearts of young voters which is essential to win a major election. For example take last two presidential elections. The gap between winner and you is around 1 million due to this factor. New voters are not coming your way and they are either going with the trend or look for new options.

You fit the robes of a clown. People do not like RP. We know his English standard. You cannot learn a language by spending time at library, you need common sense.
