Railways to remove hazardous trees along Galabada-Hatton line

The Railways Department has decided to remove the dangerous trees on both sides of the railway line between Galabada and Hatton, Railways Superintendent S. Godage said.

He said in the past three months, the upcountry railway line has been obstructed due to falling trees on nine occasions.

Therefore, necessary activities are being carried out to cut and remove dangerous trees along the upcountry railway line before the rainy weather that may occur in the central mountains in the future.

    What’s happening to the cut down trees? Hopefully it’s used such as park benches and tables thereby benefitting many from it. If it’s not so, the authorities should insist it’s done in that manner and no one person or entity is allowed to profit on these fallen trees.

    For God's sake plant at-least smaller trees such as Gliciridia (Sepium), which provides nitrogen to the soil while the leaves are good fodder for the cattle and is a beauty when it blooms.
