Colombo, February 19 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has called on the Government to take immediate steps to address the prevailing LP gas shortage reported in several parts of the island.
He said there were growing complaints from the public about difficulties in obtaining domestic gas cylinders and urged the authorities to implement urgent remedial measures.
As an immediate solution, Rajapaksa said he had requested the Government to release gas stocks from the gas terminal located within the Hambantota Port Economic Zone.
He asid that although the Hambantota terminal is currently used primarily for re-export purposes, the existing policy should be revised to allow the release of gas to the local market in order to ease the shortage.
Rajapaksa further alleged that the public was being inconvenienced due to the failure of the previous government to take timely decisions regarding supply management.
