Probe launched into Police-Air Force standoff in Kalpitiya

Colombo, June 18 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Police have launched an investigation into a tense standoff that erupted between a group of police officers and Sri Lanka Air Force personnel during a raid at the Kalpitiya seashore.

The incident occurred when a team of police officers deployed to the Kalpitiya coastal zone to seize a stock of illegal goods suspected to have been smuggled into the country by sea.

However, Air Force personnel on duty at the location intercepted the police team, claiming that the coastal zone fell strictly under their jurisdiction and authority. This led to a heated verbal argument between the two state security factions.

Police said that further investigations are underway to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
