Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror) - Committee on Public Finance (COPF) has directed the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) and other relevant institutions to carry out a probe on illegal online advertising by betting centres, it was revealed yesterday.
“Online betting sites are advertising openly across Sri Lanka with zero regulations. How could this be allowed?” COPF Chief Harsha de Silva questioned.
“I questioned the relevant officials on this massive legal blind spot and billions of tax revenue bleeding from the State,” Dr. De Silva said in his latest social media post.
“I see online advertisements even carrying the official government logo. I cannot be silent about the issue,” MP de Silva had told the relevant government officials during the recent COPF meeting.
He said he will issue a directive to the relevant institutions to look into the matter and submit a report to COPF.
