"I will not postpone any of the elections". Is he day dreaming????

    Kevin Wednesday, 22 November 2023 12:45 PM

No one to vote for. Even AKD seems dodgy after his performance at COPE where he did not do the rhetoric he does in his rallies and take SLC to task.

    sam Wednesday, 22 November 2023 12:58 PM

Good news people will ensure that you people are kicked out.

Volker Metzger Wednesday, 22 November 2023 01:11 PM

It is high time that Ranil Wickremesinghe finally lets the Sri Lankan people vote in a democratically free manner on his policies and those of the SLPP vassals! He seems to have understood that a further postponement of the election could possibly result in political unrest! On the other hand, he probably lives in the hope (in the belief) that the apparent (!) economic calm, which is a misjudgment when the facts are realistically analyzed, could save his head and secure power again! The only thing that matters now is his commitment to keeping his election promise for 2024!!! He should use the time now to think about how to spend his life meaningfully after his disastrous defeat!!!

Unforgettable journey Wednesday, 22 November 2023 10:06 PM

He is immune to defeat. Life after his defeat will be; like “at least I was able to be President through the back door even for a short stint and history books will have my name. Its a great feeling and a fab joyride at the expense of the taxpayers’ money”

Clever people of SL do not appoint these existing KAALAKANNI once again!

Best alternative Kalakaniya for Lanka Wednesday, 22 November 2023 05:21 PM

Can you give us a name of names of next best Kalakanniya we can elect as our next President? Is it Sajith, Weerasakkili, Namal. or may be Gota to finish what he started?

    Haresh Thursday, 23 November 2023 06:05 AM

SF is the ideal. Catch all the crooks and seize all the booty with a special additional tax levied. Most important we want all crooks be punished who ever may be.

    Ram Wednesday, 22 November 2023 01:45 PM

I don't trust our President as he has been caught making these statements and not carrying out

    Man Wednesday, 22 November 2023 02:28 PM

To prove his point, he must fund the local government election, at the earliest possible. Until then, no hope of elections.

    Grace Wednesday, 22 November 2023 02:31 PM

Who are you to postpone president or parliament elections? Once your term is over no-one will listen to you other than your gang and Rajapkshes gang. Many officials will not listen to you and you will have to leave with disgrace.

Premalal Perera Wednesday, 22 November 2023 04:45 PM

People may not know whom to vote for but they certainly know who not to vote for.

Mohamed Burhan Wednesday, 22 November 2023 05:12 PM

"I will not postpone any elections" your tone does alarms a negative point. Please please Sir do not postpone at that time.People are waiting eagerly to elect you again with more than 60% of votes!! If you pistpone you will not get even the 5% proportionate basis where you entered parliament

Sam Silva Wednesday, 22 November 2023 06:34 PM

Whatever he has done or doing we all have to be grateful for him to come forward and take the challenge after aragalya. All other leaders got cold feet and did not want to take the challenge for the sake of country and the people. As we all remember the country was in a terrible mess. Also it's time for him to step down and let the people select their leader.

    Onlooker Wednesday, 22 November 2023 10:26 PM

Not quite correct. Both Sajith and AKD said they will subject to conditions but Gota said no, while Ranil after waiting 20 years said "I will do as you please" just give me the post like famous Mohan Pieris CJ told Sirisena.

    Cheers Thursday, 23 November 2023 12:15 AM

Commentators here is talking about democracy and please don't forget foreign elements and minority along with jvp was responsible chasing away democratically elected president putting sri lanka in grave danger and not respecting the democracy and the constitution which sri lanka failed miserably after his departure than sapada

Pantha Kumaran Thursday, 23 November 2023 12:27 AM

Dear Mr President, why don't you, Mahinda, Dinesh. Chamal, Nirmal, Wimal, Udaya and other old politicians handover the power to younger generations for the betterment of our country.

    Dreamer Thursday, 23 November 2023 01:11 AM

Elections? if we are to believe his word. If by chance there is a fair and free election -what this country deserves is an independent, corrupt free candidate who is there for the good of the country-like what France had Charles DE Gaulle in the early 1960's.

Nincompoop president Thursday, 23 November 2023 08:20 AM

Good, you can canvas for your boss Basil.

    බැංකු හොරා Thursday, 23 November 2023 11:44 AM

If people don't like old politicians like Ranil, Mahinda, and the thug MPs who support them in parliament they should reject them. They will never give a chance to young people. People have kick them ou t

    Socrates Friday, 24 November 2023 02:58 AM

Well said. What is required is a set of honest new young faces that can hopefully take the country to prosperity and provide equal justice to all. Oh! also reduced the number of lotus eater from 225 to some 100 in the parliament.

    Ima Thursday, 23 November 2023 02:25 PM

You deliberately ransacked provincial council election, which was more than two years due, even after candidates deposited their surety, so you as person unreliable but if you attempting to meddling with presidential election, there would be serious agitation,

Indra Dasa Friday, 24 November 2023 08:09 AM

This man lies all the time while sitting in the constitutional assembly that supposed to be the most respected democratic assembly according to the most respected democratic wesminister system in the world .
