Colombo, Feb. 5 (Daily Mirror) - SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva said that during his address at the 78th Independence Day yesterday, President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka rejected the political slogan '75-year curse'.
Speaking in a video on his official Facebook page after the event, Dr. Silva said, “In the President's speech, he said something he does not usually say. There have been good things for 75 years and there have been bad things. That is what we have been saying all along. Good things have happened, bad things have happened, but not all things are bad.”
Dr. Silva added that only when citizens can fully utilize their labour and wealth will they truly benefit. “Everyone knows that there is a problem with whether they are able to use their own labour and wealth in that way in the current situation,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of collaborating with the world, developing the economy through local capabilities, and creating a system where the benefits of growth are shared fairly among all. “That is what we truly believe in as the real independence ,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, Dr. Silva called for unity among all communities, saying, “My wish is that we continue to take forward and strengthen the good things that have happened in our 78-year history since our liberation from colonialism, and move forward by uniting the Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim people.”
