What about those in non state or unemployed?

    SM Monday, 13 November 2023 07:19 PM

You can pay higher taxes to fund the state sector salary increases.

    Ama Monday, 13 November 2023 12:58 PM

Sure victory in the next presidential election. Giving 10,000 only he won in 2015. PLAY WITH TAX PAYERS MONEY.

    sach Tuesday, 14 November 2023 11:25 PM

It was that move in 2015 to increase salary by 10000 which caused the current economic crisis in the first place.

Karalasingam Sivalingam Monday, 13 November 2023 01:02 PM

    Commendable increase. Good budget.

    Jayantha Monday, 13 November 2023 01:05 PM

Lol. So imf has helped a bunch of rogues again. Just raising salaries instead of shrinking the unwanted government sector. Just trying to win next election but this fool will never win.

    Citizens Monday, 13 November 2023 01:08 PM

Bull shitting and you have ruined the hope of SLPP getting atleast few seats at the next election thank you so much 6

    FairJudge Monday, 13 November 2023 01:20 PM

Where is the money coming from? Look at SL people: all high end hotels, restaurants and clubs are full. People are having lavish weddings and parties. Luxury cars on roads. All kids go to tuition masters from Grade 1 paying good money. No students want to go to schools. Where are the taxpayers? These life styles are not reflected in the number of tax payers. Why increased already overstaffed public servants pay?

    Ram Monday, 13 November 2023 01:41 PM

President presenting the Budget. Strangely his hands are not in his trouser pockets. He must be feeling little uncomfortable

INCREASE THE FD INTEREST RATE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS WHO DEPEND ON IT FOR A LIVING..

Senior citizen Monday, 13 November 2023 02:31 PM

HELP US SENIOR CITIZENS ALSO TO LIVE AND DIE DECENTLY WITH AN INCREASED RATE OF FD INTEREST

    Grace Monday, 13 November 2023 05:22 PM

The government should consider to pay a certain amount monthly to senior citizens because many are going through severe financial difficulties as their children are unable to take care of them. Especially middle east returnees.

    BuffaloaCitizen Monday, 13 November 2023 02:33 PM

Gifting to a sector that is corrupt to the core and is part of the bankruptcy to this nation. Actually we should reduce salaries of State Sector because they are all crooks, good for nothing and Hench-aiya's for Political Masters.

Be Fair Monday, 13 November 2023 03:02 PM

Super. Income Tax also should be increased to around 38.75%

    Priyan66 Monday, 13 November 2023 03:35 PM

We cannot maintain this inefficient cadre of government servants. This will further discourage tax payments

    Sam Monday, 13 November 2023 04:00 PM

That will be fine but only if you also introduce a 100% tax on the cost of living allowance.

    Cherath Monday, 13 November 2023 05:02 PM

Increasing the salary for 1.4 million public servants by Rs.10,000 per month will most certainly worsen the economy with super inflation as too much money will be chasing too few goods and services. What do you do after a couple years after the prices rise above the spending power? Another 10,000? Invest the Rs.10,000 x 1.4 million in increasing production in all sectors of the economy- more goods/exports - lower prices - leading to affordable living with existing income.

    Buddhist Monday, 13 November 2023 05:26 PM

As usual, like everything else, this increase too will come only in the future, and maybe it never arrive after the Presidential election!

    Ajevan Monday, 13 November 2023 05:30 PM

If u r man enough as u r saying, Mr. President, be courageous to reduce the unwanted labour in inefficient government sector. then increase the salary to the efficient staffs even by 20k. Privatize the loss making state sector as ultimately public can benefit from them rather than losing money for corruption. Your moves are only affecting the poor people in the country by indirect taxes u r imposing on them. Increase the income tax % on high income earners and businesses. Block the loops in the tax system as wealthy organizations paying low income tax by way of placing all their family members and friends as directors and reducing the profit by way of director wages and expenses.

He is playing his last Trump card. But it's going to be a joker that will be played after the budget is passed. "When will our people understand these politicians " our jokers will fall for the carrot, forgetting the button.

    Jude Monday, 13 November 2023 08:53 PM

Reduce the employees without delay. Stop recruitment . Salary increase is going to have a impact on the public funds. Most of the government services does not have efficient out put. Armed forces to be reduced.

    Gb Monday, 13 November 2023 11:39 PM

Instead of increasing overstaffed and corrupt state sector employees salary, reduce cost of living/taxes/electricity costs/fuel/food so it will benefit all, not just a few, the poor are being pushed harder and harder because of corruption and greed

How much money you give SOME OF THESE PUBLIC SERVANTS (I ONLY SAY SOME) THESE BASTARDS DO OOT WORK. THEY HAVE FORGOTTON THE FACT, THAT THEY ARE SERVSNTS TO THE PUBLIC.

    SLEx Tuesday, 14 November 2023 07:53 AM

For all the people saying to downsize the number of employees instead of giving a 10,000 rupee allowance hike are so ignorant. Do you think putting thousands of people out of jobs suddenly will do any good to anyone? Yes we need to downsize the number of public servants. To do that it needs to happen gradually by refraining from recruiting new people and also digitising the government infrastructure so we will be able to automate and make a lot of positions redundant.

Government sectors are among worse majority unprofessionals that don't contribute at all this fellows are liability to the nation they only work few hours a day they spend time on Facebook internet and personal things this fellows have toomany holidays time off etc etc some govment sectors are over staff some fellows are clueless dont even no where to start and end salary increasements promotions bonuses its all good but should be a mechanism for those who deserve not for the lairbilties there are somany poor families suffering suffering government must get behind to surport all citizens who are struggling to minimize the suffering

    Hamdhan Tuesday, 14 November 2023 11:09 AM

Why not decrease the already redundant state emplyees. Already all of them are getting perks from banks, loans, pensions etc. And who will shoulder this burden i ask Ranil rajapaksha? All other private taxpers. Ranil Rajapaksha is spending money that is not right fully his on a white elphant just because he can get some pin votes, so next time he wont have to goto parliment through back door on a bonus seat.

Senior Citizens Tuesday, 14 November 2023 11:48 AM

How about retired senior Citizens without a pension and those in the private sector etc., etc.

Volker Metzger Wednesday, 15 November 2023 09:04 PM

The discrepancies between this policy, especially this economic and social policy, between President Wickremesigne, who was not elected by the people, and the clique that is still in power is blatant and can only be understood against the background of electoral considerations and the will to power!!! Additional support for living costs is promised to those who, in the opinion of the majority of the people, are inefficient and sometimes corruptible in secure "work", and to those who are really in need and who have not been able to afford the horrendous prices for food and the daily needs of their families for a long time If you can pay more, you will come away empty-handed!!! Yes, on the contrary, they are literally squeezed out through constant tax increases, while the wealthy and wealthy are spared or do not have to pay taxes!!!

Volker Metzger Wednesday, 15 November 2023 09:06 PM

So while the majority of people are subject to massive restrictions and hardships every day and suffer, a privileged upper class lives in relative comfort!!! This social imbalance and injustice that is pervasive will bring an end to Ranil and his politics!!!
