Police sergeant dies of gunshot injuries
A police sergeant on guard duty at the Matara District Judge’s residence in Matara Beach Road died of gunshot injuries and his body was recovered by Matara police this morning.
The deceased, Bandula Pushapakumara (55) had been on duty at the District Judge's residence last night and was scheduled to be off duty this morning.
A senior police official said whether it was a suicide or foul play was yet to be established. He said a formal investigation would be held in this regard.
During preliminary investigations, the police had recovered two empty cartridges lying at the scene. Matara police are conducting further investigations. (Krishan Jeewaka Jayaruk)
