Police probe knife attack between brothers in Badulla



Badulla, May 21 (Daily Mirror) - The Badulla Police have launched an investigation into a violent incident during which a man was seriously injured in a stabbing attack on the pavement of King Street in Badulla.

Police said ir was revealed that the altercation involved two brothers from the same family. A dispute between them escalated when the younger brother allegedly attacked his elder brother, who was engaged in pavement trading, with a sharp weapon.

A police sergeant and a bystander intervened during the attack and managed to apprehend the suspect at the scene.

Police said both individuals, residents of Badulla sustained injuries. 

The younger brother, aged 48, who was seriously injured in the incident, has been admitted to the General Hospital Badulla. The elder brother, aged 53, was also hospitalised under police protection due to injuries sustained during the struggle.

In response to the incident, Dr. Palitha Rajapaksa of the Badulla General Hospital said in a Facebook post that this was not the first violent clash between the two brothers. 

He revealed that in a previous incident, the younger brother had stabbed the elder, who had survived due to timely surgical intervention and had spent nearly a month in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

It was revealed that the brothers have a history of violence against each other and have been hospitalised multiple times due to mutual assaults.
