Police nab seven for drug trafficking disguised as fishing



Colombo, Oct. 5 (Daily Mirror) - Seven suspects were arrested today by the Matara and Hambantota District Crimes Divisions for their involvement in distributing hashish across several areas in the Southern Province.

The arrests were made during coordinated raids conducted in the Habaraduwa and Baddegama areas. Police seized a total of 5.6 kilograms of hashish, with an estimated street value of around Rs. 40 million.

Investigations revealed that the suspects were conducting this drug trafficking operation under the guise of fishing activities. 

Among those arrested is Midigama Rana, identified as an associate of the notorious organised criminal and drug trafficker Midigama Ruwan.

Police said that further investigations are ongoing to trace the network and other individuals involved in the drug distribution chain in the region.
