Player dies after collapsing during cricket match in Beruwala

Colombo, July 6 (Daily Mirror) - A local cricket match in Beruwala ended in tragedy after a 46-year-old cricketer collapsed on the field and later died during a tournament organised by an old boys' association of a school.

The incident occurred while the batsman, identified as Zulfikar, was at the crease. It was reported that he suddenly collapsed during the innings. 

Players from both teams, along with the umpires, immediately rushed to his aid before the tournament's medical team arrived. He was promptly taken from the ground to receive emergency medical attention. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

It is suspected that the cause of death may have been a heart attack.

The match was being streamed live and following the tragedy, organisers suspended the tournament indefinitely.
