Permanent solution to power cuts by April 10: Minister

A permanent solution would be given for the schedule daily power cuts by April 10, Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake said yesterday.

He was addressing an event of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held at the Galadari Hotel and said no electricity generation procedure had occurred since 2014 in the country. The demand for electricity had increased by 7 to 8 per cent but no sufficient supply, he said.

“No need to blame the past. We are experiencing repercussion for not taking preliminary actions to address the power demanding issue. We need to find a viable solution so that this kind of crisis would not emerge in future,” Minister said.

However, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had recently issued daily power cuts routine and I would make a clear statement on Friday (29) in Parliament what had caused the power cuts, Minister Karunanayake said.

We would have to give a definite solution to this issue and the inconvenience caused to the public, Minister added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

You as a government need to take responsibly for the past. There was no power plants added and just talk. Soon we may have the whole day power cuts. That is when two generators shut down at Norochcholai and hope it may not happen.

April 10th means another 14 days. You politicians slept until the power cut came to the doorstep. What did the Government do for the last 5 years? No action talk RUBBISH ONLY. Sri Lanka is being ruined by the politicians.

The permanent solution will be to make power cuts permanent. The clear statement he is going to make in the parliament will have to be to clarify his previous clear statement that there would not be any more power cuts.

Where are the CEB trade unions - those people who resort to Trade Union action for every drop of a hat , is totally silent. There are part of the present crisis too who have never proposed a solution . Shame on you
