Parliament heats up over death of domestic aide at actress’ residence

The death of a domestic servant working in the residence of an actress created a heated argument in Parliament today with the Opposition repeatedly calling for an investigation and the government ensuring an impartial probe.

The arguments heated up when Chief Government Whip Prasanna Ranatunga told the opposition not to politicize the incident.

“The Prime Minister has assured an impartial probe into the killing of the young woman who is a Tamil from Badulla and the opposition should not try to gain political mileage on it,” the Chief Government Whip said.

He said this when MP Mano Ganesan raised the issue initially and others including MPs Wimal Weerawansa and Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa also followed suit.

MP Wimal Weerawansa said  the matter cannot be taken lightly and special attention should be focused.
“One cannot tolerate the killing of innocent people,” he said.

Primer Minister Gunawardene said an impartial probe will be carried out. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
