Parents hold silent protest against postponement of grade 6 education reforms



Colombo, January 17 (Daily Mirror) - A silent protest was held yesterday in front of the Ministry of Education yesterday morning opposing the decision to postpone the education reforms related to Grade 6 until 2027.

The protest was organized by the Parents’ Association of children due to enter Grade 6 this year. The parents said that issues surrounding the controversial module should be resolved without delay and that the proposed education reforms for Grade 6 should be implemented this year as originally planned.

During the demonstration, five parents were allowed to engage in discussions with a group of officials from the Ministry of Education regarding their concerns.

Similar protests were also reported from other parts of the country. A group of parents staged a demonstration in Medirigiriya town demanding the immediate implementation of the Grade 6 education reforms. Another protest was held in the Malimbada area of Matara with the same demand.

Meanwhile, a separate protest organized by the Samatha Jana Balawegaya took place in Anuradhapura city, opposing the new education reforms.
