Colombo, March 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced a new tariff category for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations as part of the Second Electricity Tariff Revision for 2026, aiming to promote EV adoption and improve demand-side management, including peak shifting.
PUCSL Chairman K. P. L. Chandralal said the tariff structure has already been outlined, while the Ministry of Energy has also submitted a separate proposal related to the initiative.
Under the new category, designated for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), consumers will be required to obtain a dedicated electricity supply specifically for EV charging operations.
In addition, applicants must secure either an exemption certificate or a No Objection Letter issued by the PUCSL in order to establish and operate EV charging facilities under the new tariff framework.
