Over 92 million eggs to be imported from India

The Cabinet has approved the proposal by President and Finance Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to import 92.1 million eggs from India for a period of three months, Cabinet spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardene said.

Earlier, the Cabinet approved the import of eggs to control the escalating prices of eggs in the local market.

We are like Arabs we imports same as them, we might import water bottles too .at the moment a litre of water bottle is Rs 120.may be cheap in india

Please get down chicken as well. These local guys will not reduce even if feed is given FOC by the govt. Some buy eggs at 35/- and sell at small grocery for 45/-. eggs are a plenty now but still eateries have not reduced votives of egg hoppers etc. this is one country you can’t correct because of the corrupt people! (Not politicians)

See how the public money is wastes by corrupt government. Instead they could have imported some medicine or solar equipments. Future government should investigate all those who were behind the import of eggs and chicken then recover that money in foreign currency and give harsh panishment. Imf officers too may be involved in these kinds of scams as they are keeping mouth shut when government waste money like this.

In India the retail price of eggs is INR 4 or 5. If SL is importing millions of eggs the wholesale price would be quite less. However the imported eggs are priced in SLR 35 or 40, which clearly shows how much commission is being earned by the unscrupulous importer. Why cannot the government help the local industry grow with these commissions and avoid any type of bird flu entering the country.

Maybe the maths are wrong as the Govt should have placed an order for 6.9 mn rotten eggs to be given to those who voted for the party that came to power since the country which was self sufficient has now to import eggs from India because the politicians have messed the country's economy.
