Sri Lanka (Daily Mirror) - More than half the Sri Lankan population – 53% – believes local political forces were involved in the Easter Sunday attacks carried out in 2019, according to a survey commissioned in October by Syndicated Surveys.
According to Verité Research, those surveyed were given the following three views prevalent in the country about who was behind the attacks and asked to select the one they most agreed with.
1) It was carried out by Sri Lankan extremists who were working with dangerous foreign forces.
2) It was carried out by Sri Lankan extremists who were working with local political forces.
3) It was carried out by Sri Lankan extremists who were working with both local political forces and dangerous foreign forces.
As such, 53% believed local political forces were involved -- 30% selected the second answer, and 23% selected the third answer. Only 8% believed that it was carried out without the involvement of local political forces (the first answer). A high percentage, 39%, said they have no opinion or refused to comment.
The attacks were carried out on 21 April 2019 (Easter Sunday) with three churches and three luxury hotels targeted in a series of coordinated suicide bombings, killing a total of 269 people.
The poll was conducted in October 2023 and was based on an island-wide, nationally representative sample of responses from 1,029 Sri Lankan adults. The poll has a maximum error margin below ±3% at a 95% confidence interval.

It is pretty obvious! But who went shopping during Nov. 2019 election? For the sake of ‘national security’! Who wanted so and so to be president even if they were starving?(now starving). Sad part is the same shoppers are talking for the upcoming election as well! Not knowing whom they went shopping for and subsequently ruined the whole country! Religion apart! They who went shopping to ‘save the nation’ in Nov. 2019 should rot!

The rip between Maithiri and Ranil under Yahapalayana Govt. led to the opponents to achieve what they wanted through the shedding innocent blood of so many locals and foreigners.Every one knows who are behind these attacks.Why they freely moving without any arrest.Now the new IGP who is widely condemned for his inaction cannot take these cases forward

Everyone aware of the political game, it is very simple theory those who benefited from this are the culprits who planed this. they thought it is a win win situation for them, but they miscalculated. Survey or coop will not do any good, since the politicians are above the law.

Consider the following: • This incident took place during Ranil’s watch as the PM; • Now that he is the President and, has the powers to investigate by calling an impartial team of with foreign judges to sit alongside our own. • Such an investigation can help to get a closure to this gossip. Why is Ranil procrastinating such an investigation if his hands are not soaked in the blood of the innocent lives lost?

DIG Nalaka Silva was arrested in October 2018 on an allegation of an assassination plot to kill the then President Maithripala and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya. Nalaka’s evidence before the Presidential Commission was, that he was arrested when plans were in place to arrest Zaharan. He had obtained a warrant from Court to arrest Zaharan. With the arrest of Nalaka arrest of Zaharan was foiled. Later Nalaka released without charge. Isn't the political involvement clear now?
