Over 300 inmates to be released for Christmas

A total of 309 inmates serving sentences in prisons will be released tomorrow in view of Christmas, Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said.

He said 306 males and 3 females have been listed to be released on account of Christmas.

Outdated our prison service is a burden to publics ..some people might prefer to stay in the prison to get free food due to the economic crisis...some of them are serving sentence for minor offence...create open jail system as in western countries to give them some community service .. People in jail must learn some skills to contribute back to our community... don't make them as a burden and release all Minor offenders so that we could save money and consider the productivity of all .... mismanagement of prison service costs a lot ..like our politicians our civil servants don't have brains to plan and reform our prison service.. No point in blaming political leaders alone civil servants must advise political leaders what reforms we must do and how to do them ...

RW doesn’t have money to feed prisoners but letting them out while crime rates are over the roof , what a good thinking. These prisoners won’t have jobs or anything so they will do what they are best at (crimes).
