Colombo, Nov. 14 (Daily Mirror) - A low-level atmospheric disturbance lingering to the east of Sri Lanka is expected to bring widespread showers and thundershowers across several parts of the island in the coming hours, said the Meteorology Department.
Under its influence, the Northern, North-Central and Eastern provinces will experience showers or thundershowers at times, with heavy rainfall of around 100 mm likely in parts of the Northern Province and the Trincomalee district.
According to the department, showers or thundershowers are also expected in other areas of the country after 1.00 p.m. The Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces may receive fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm in some locations.
Misty conditions are forecast during the early morning in several of these same provinces.
The Met Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from lightning and temporary strong winds that may accompany thundershowers.
