Colombo, January 11 (Daily Mirror) - Heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are expected in the Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa district today, the Forecasting Division of the National Meteorological Centre said.
Showers are likely to occur in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, while thundershowers may develop in several other areas during the afternoon or night.
Fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts.
Strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h are anticipated in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.
Misty conditions are likely in certain areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, during the morning.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
