Order on Ven. Gnanasara Thera’s bail request to be delivered today

Colombo, April 2 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige has scheduled for 12.30 p.m. today the delivery of its order regarding the bail application filed on behalf of Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven. Galaboda Atte Gnanasara Thera, who was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment.

On March 28, Ven. Gnanasara Thera was convicted for making a hate speech by insulting the religious beliefs of the Muslim community.

President's Counsel Maithri Gunaratne appearing on behalf of Ven. Gnanasara Thera sought bail in terms of Section 20(2) of the Bail Act (No.30 of 1997), requesting to release Ven. Gnanasara Thera since an appeal had been filed against the conviction.

Very confusing. He was already sentenced and later pardoned by Maithri. that was done because it was a clear cut verdict then. So why this Bail application consideration now ? Would the courts now grant him Bail ?????? or would Azad Saley now withdraw from the case, since now he is giving sob story interviews to the media on the very case that he filed.
