One killed, two children injured in Jinthupitiya shooting

Colombo, January 17 (Daily Mirror) - Police say the fatal shooting reported in the Jinthupitiya area of Colombo last night was the result of a clash between two underworld gangs.

Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police F.U. Wutler, said three police teams have been deployed to investigate the incident.

A 44-year-old resident of Colombo 13, who sustained critical injuries in the shooting, died after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

Two children—a four-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl—were also injured and are receiving treatment at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo. Police said their condition is stable and that medical teams are providing necessary care.

The shooting occurred in an area known as 125 Wattha, Jinthupitiya. Preliminary investigations indicate that a group arrived at the scene in a three-wheeler, opened fire, and fled the area. Investigations are ongoing.
