Colombo, June 18 (Daily Mirror) - Nuwara Eliya Police have launched an investigation into the discovery of a young woman’s body found inside a vehicle near the Teldeniya Hospital in Kandy on the 17th, following reports that she had been staying at a tourist hotel in Nuwara Eliya with her boyfriend a day earlier, on the 16th.
Police suspect that the deceased, identified as P.R. Shyama Darshani (33), a physiotherapist attached to the Ampara Hospital from Weligama, had been staying at a private tourist hotel in Nuwara Eliya with her boyfriend, T.M.S. Dineth Dissanayake (35) from Kannoruwa, since June 3, 2026.
Investigators believe that following an argument between the pair, the woman was killed, after which her body was allegedly transported in a vehicle and abandoned near the Teldeniya Hospital.
Security camera footage reportedly shows the woman being carried out of the hotel by her partner with her face covered, according to police sources.
A senior officer involved in the investigation said Nuwara Eliya Police are coordinating with Teldeniya Police to obtain further information and continue inquiries based on the available evidence.
