No revision in train fares from tonight: Dilum

From tonight, there will be no increase in the intercity and long distance special train fares, Transport Minister Dilum Amunugama said.

He said the railway department had announced a sudden fare hike without prior approval from the ministry. 

A discussion on train ticket fare increase was to be held this evening, and the fare revision will be announced by Monday or Tuesday, the Minister said.

However, the Railway Department today announced the intercity ticket fares have been increased for the Northern Line and the Up Country. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
