Colombo, March 25 (Daily Mirror) - Agriculture and Livestock Deputy Minister Namal Karunaratne has assured that there is no reason to increase rice prices for the New Year season, as the country has sufficient stocks.
Speaking to the media, he said there is more than enough Nadu Rice available. “We have excess stock of Nadu Rice. There is a minor issue with Keeri Samba, but we have taken measures to manage the supply. Currently, we are using paddy harvested from both last and this season,” he added.
The Minister highlighted that any change in rice prices should only reflect transport and fuel costs, not shortages.
