No explosives found so far at Kandy District Secretariat: Police

Colombo, December 26, (Daily Mirror) : Police said that no explosives have been found in search operations conducted so far at the Kandy District Secretariat, following information that bombs had been hidden within the premises.

According to the police, investigations were launched after a notification was made to the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Kandy Division regarding an email threat received today (26). 

The email, sent to the official email address of the Kandy District Secretary, claimed that bombs had been concealed in five locations within the Kandy District Secretariat.

Subsequently, a team of officers from the Kandy Police Station initiated inquiries and commenced a comprehensive search of the premises. 

The Police Kennels Division, the Police Special Task Force Bomb Disposal Unit, and the Army Bomb Disposal Unit have also been deployed to assist in the operation.

Police said that search operations are still ongoing, and further investigations are being carried out to determine the authenticity and source of the threatening email.
