New COPE, COPA members appointed

New members of Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) were announced today in Parliament.

Accordingly, MPs Jagath Pushpakumara, Janaka Wakumbura, D. V. Chanaka, Shantha Bandara, Anura Dissanayake, Rauff Hakeem, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Anuruddha Herath, Mahindananda Aluthgmage, Dayasiri Jayasekera, Rohitha abeygunawardene, Eran Wickramaratne, Nimal Lanza, Jayantha Samaraweera, S. M. M. Musharaff, Nalin Bandara Jayamaha, S. M. Marikar, Rohini Wijeratne, Chaminda Wijesiri, Sanjeewa Edirimanne, Jagantha Kumara Sumthirarachchi, Sudarshana Denapitiya, Premanath Dolawatte, Upul Mahendra Rajapaksa, M. Rameshwaran,s. Rasamanikam, Rajika Wickramasingha, Madura Withanage, Ranjith Bandara and Charitha Herath are new members of COPE. MP Patali Champika Ranwaka who was a member of COPE earlier is a notable omission.

Members of COPA are MPs Mohan Priyadarshana de Silva, Lasantha Alagiyawanne,Prasanna Ranaweera,Kadar Masthan, Surean Ragawana, Chamara Sampath Dassanayake,Diana Gamage, S. B. Dissanyake,Tissa Attanayake,Vajira Abeywardana,A. L. A. M. Attaullah, Kabir Hashim, Mano Ganesan,Sarath Weerasekera,Wimalaweera Dissanayake,Niroshan Perera,J. C. Alawathuweala,Vadiwel Suresh, Asok Abeysinghe,Buddhika Pathirana, Jayantha Ketagoda, Hector Appuharmy, Hesha Vithanage, Pradeep Undugoda, Isuru Dodamgoda,S Rasamanikam,W. D. Sahan Pradeep, D.     The practice of paying these members per sitting must be scrapped. They are paid a salary and this is part of their duty attached to the salary. If not happy quit parliament making room for those who will do the work for the salary
