Colombo, Nov. 10 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa visited the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) headquarters on Darley Road, Colombo, today his first visit in about 10 years for discussions on the upcoming opposition rally in Nugegoda scheduled for November 21.
The meeting brought together representatives from both parties, including SLFP Chairman Nimal Siripala de Silva and several senior members, to coordinate plans for the rally organized to protest the actions of the current government.
Following the discussions, SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake said all opposition parties are coming together “on the same platform for democracy.” He added, “Those who once believed in the compass have realized they were deceived. We will expose this lie on the 21st.”
Responding to journalists, Namal Rajapaksa said his visit was to urge the government to fulfill its promises and address unfulfilled budget proposals. “Not even 50% of the previous budget proposals have been implemented. While that is happening, the President speaks for four and a half hours. Who requested 1,700 cabs, and from which institution? We’re still looking for that person,” he said.
He accused the government of deceptive politics, claiming it was trying to please select groups while failing the public. “The people have realized the government is lying. They even tried to arrest me under false claims—it collapsed in Pelawatte. The government is doing politics based on the pickpocket theory,” he added.
Rajapaksa said all those who share that view will gather at Nugegoda on November 21, in what is expected to be a major opposition rally uniting several parties.
