Colombo, Feb. 16 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said, today criticised the government, accusing it of failing to take responsibility despite being in power for more than a year and a half.
Speaking to the media after appearing before the Colombo High Court, MP Rajapaksa said the current administration continues to blame previous governments instead of addressing present challenges.
He pointed out that the government holds a two-thirds majority in Parliament and therefore has the mandate to govern without shifting responsibility. “It has been more than a year and a half since they came into power. They have the President and a two-thirds majority. They should take responsibility instead of pointing fingers at others,” he said.
MP Rajapaksa also expressed concern over what he described as a weakening law and order situation in the country. Referring to the recent killing of a lawyer allegedly by organised criminals, he claimed that attempts were being made to portray the victim in a negative light.
He further alleged that certain statements made by government representatives were creating fear among public service professionals, including doctors, and warned against what he described as attempts to intimidate individuals.
The SLPP National Organiser said the case he appeared for in court was postponed to February 19.
