SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa has called on all political parties to unite despite their differences as Sri Lanka faces economic challenges following the United States’ decision to impose a 44% reciprocal tariff on Sri Lankan goods.
He warned that the tariff would severely impact key sectors like apparel and could lead to increased unemployment.
With Sri Lanka still recovering from the 2022 economic crisis, Rajapaksa stressed that the government’s export targets are now at risk, making economic recovery even more difficult.
Furthermore, he urged the government to readjust its budget proposals and explore alternative solutions to sustain export earnings if talks with the US do not succeed.
“As we face this huge hurdle, it is time for all political parties to work together and support the affected sectors,” Rajapaksa said, emphasizing the need for unity to overcome this challenge.
