Colombo, March 11 (Daily Mirror) - Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa says the investigation into the 2019 Easter Sunday Attacks should be carried out in a fair and transparent manner without being influenced by political rivalries or geopolitical agendas.
In a post on his X account, the MP said that the current government came to power promising justice for the victims and families affected by the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
However, he said the present progress of the investigations raises serious concerns about whether that promise will ultimately be fulfilled and whether the credibility of the investigation will be maintained.
Rajapaksa said that he supports a fair, transparent and impartial investigation, adding that those responsible for the attacks must be identified and punished according to the law.
“We strongly believe that the real conspirators behind this heinous act of terrorism must be identified and punished according to the law,” he said.
Meanwhile, commenting on the arrest of Suresh Salle, Rajapaksa described him as a respected military officer who served in the State Intelligence Service of Sri Lanka.
He said that the former Director of the State Intelligence Service played an important role in Sri Lanka’s efforts to defeat terrorism during the nearly three-decade-long conflict.
Rajapaksa said Salle’s contribution to national security was commendable and claimed that, over time, politically influenced narratives had been created linking him to the Easter attacks.
The MP also alleged that the same level of investigation had not been carried out against certain individuals accused of neglecting their responsibilities in connection with the attacks.
He further said that some individuals mentioned in official commission reports for negligence had later joined the current government and had been appointed to high positions, while Suresh Salle had been specifically targeted for investigation.
