Colombo, Nov. 6 (Daily Mirror) - The National People's Power (NPP) Peliyagoda Urban Council member, whose husband and son were arrested for drug smuggling, has resigned.

Legal action is being taken against the two individuals who were arrested with drugs in Eppawala, the National People's Power (NPP) said.

The NPP added that the member in question, Disna Niranjala Kumari, was elected as a member of the Peliyagoda Urban Council at the last Local Government elections.

She has handed over the letter of resignation to the Gampaha District Returning Officer.

This is very good and setting example from the front and it is a great and historical in Sri Lankan politics: You are really great and you may be innocent and you cannot be punished for your husband’s problems.. But you are teaching a good lesson for 22 millions Lankans and more importantly for our politicians: Personal life is different from public life and you are telling this loudly and clearly. If only she had saved so many people and even kids from getting addicted . if only she could have prevailed upon her son and husband not to venture out to be rich at the expense of the many fragile humans reaching out to this deadly product and becoming kudu karayo .not only mental feeble but even stealing to feed their habit ..then I would salute her as a great person ..indeed.After all as a political leader one becoe dedicated to find solution to human problems does it not ?

Honest and excellent decision by her, although she is NOT to be blamed for her husband and or son's involvement in drug smuggling. both Husband and Son are adults and make their own decisions, this is a example of HONESTY in the NPP GOVT. as for her husband and son, sadly if found GUILTY, they will receive the full force of the law and so should everybody getting involved in any form of illegal activity. this govt IS LIKE NO OTHER GOVT IN THE PAST AND SO IS OUR PRESIDENT ANURA, THIS GOVT IS THE ONLY GOVT THAT WILL GOVERN WITH HONESTYAND TAKE THE COUNTRY AND ALL ITS PEOPLE INTO PROSPERITY, UPLIFTING OUR LIVES IN SOME SHAPE OR FORM. If this has happened under previous governments, the police men who caught the accused will end up in different police stations on transfer. Police station would receive un ending calls from different politicos to release the culprit.

It is so disappointing to read the comments of this clip. As a neutral observer I observe that this lady who has been a nurse before would have known long time ago about her close members of her family. After been exposed of her drug connection she had to go. So giving credit to her is utter BS. Should have never been elected in the first place.
