Colombo, April 27 (Daily Mirror) - A 36-year-old Moldovan national who was staying at a tourist hotel in Liyanagoda, Habaraduwa died after drowning in the hotel’s swimming pool, the Habaraduwa Police said.
According to police, the foreigner had arrived in Sri Lanka on February 8 with his mother, who found him dead in the hotel's swimming pool this evening. She informed the hotel manager, who then notified the police.
Police later reviewed CCTV footage from near the swimming pool, which revealed that the deceased, identified as Narubai Mihail had entered the pool at around 10:45 p.m on April 26, 2025. It was observed that he fell ill shortly after entering and drowned in the four-foot-deep pool at around 11:30 p.m.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted at Karapitiya Hospital, while further investigations are underway by the Habaraduwa Police.
