Met Department warns of severe lightning in several areas

Colombo, Nov 8. (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory warning of thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning in several parts of the country, including the North-western, Uva, Central, and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Anuradhapura, Mannar, Ampara, and Hambantota districts.

According to the advisory, temporary strong winds are also expected during thundershowers. 

The public has been urged to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of injuries and property damage caused by lightning activity.

Residents are also advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open areas and water bodies, and refrain from using wired telephones or electrical appliances. 

The Department further cautioned the public to stay away from open vehicles such as bicycles and tractors and to remain alert for falling trees and power lines.
