Malaysian arrested at BIA with Rs. 250M cocaine stock

Colombo, Nov. 24 (Daily Mirror) - A foreign national was arrested while attempting to smuggle cocaine worth Rs. 250 million at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night.

The suspect, a 25-year-old Malaysian national, had arrived in Sri Lanka at 8:20 p.m. on Etihad Airways flight EY-396 from Abu Dhabi.

Customs officers found 5 kilograms of cocaine concealed in cans labeled as chocolate, hidden inside the suspect’s hand luggage.

The drugs had been carefully packed to avoid detection but were discovered during a thorough inspection at the arrival terminal.

The suspect and the seized cocaine are to be handed over to the Narcotics Division of the Katunayake Airport Police for further investigation.

Nothing less than life imprisonment and make them pay penalty of double the value of the drugs imported. Use this money for drug rehab. centres. Softy softly approach has made us a drug haven for traffickers! We need strong deterrents.
