A video has been found circulating on social media showing former President Maithripala Sirisena showing off his poetry reading skills by reciting a 'Hitiwana Kavi' in an age-old style at a wedding ceremony held recently.

While reciting the poem, the former President congratulated the newly wed couple at the ceremony by tapping the lectern.

The video shows the participants at the wedding ceremony appreciating the poem by clapping loudly much to the delight of the former President.

The english translation of the basic poem he recited is as follows :

"I must say Sathya is a good child. Sathya has grown up well. Sathya is well educated and a good person. Sathya is not bad. Sathya is good, Kasun is good. Both of them are good." (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Sathya maybe a good child but if she was knowledgeable person will not invite bastard politicians like you for there precious ceremonies. It shows we Sinhalese a culturally doby's, ready to wash any dirty cloth for personal gain. If a beggar was invited by Sathya, there would true Sathya in this ceremony.

A private affair of a retired government servant and grandfather which many other such retired grandfathers must be doing in this country has now become a news item for our country. Is it because we dont have anything else which is newsworthy. At every wedding there must be such actions happening, why publish only Maithree?
